Question |
Art Room
The room in the main picture
at the top of this page looks to me as if it may be an Art Classroom, but
if you know different, please
e-mail me.

Answer 1
from Phil Wilson |
Thank you to Phil Wilson,
Aberdeen, who replied a couple of hours after I added the picture to the
web site, confirming that the room was indeed the school's Art Room.
Phil sent me a copy of this
photograph of the same room taken from the Royal High School's Prospectus,
1925-26.

Answer 2
from Brian Gourlay |
Thank you to Brian Gourlay,
Biggar, Lanarkshire, who responded to the two postcards of the Royal High
School that I added recently to the web site: showing the Library
and the Art Room.
Brian remembered the Library
well, but added:
"Strangely, I don't recognise the art room. I can only think it was not in
the main school, but perhaps on the top floor of the building extension
near to road up the Calton Hill above the gymnasium which housed science
and maths classes when I was there.
During my time, art classrooms were in Regent Terrace where the school
occupied houses Nos, 1, 2 and 4 - with the American Consulate at No. 3.
Brian Gourlay, Biggar, Lanarkshire: January 15, 2007 |
Brian: Yes, the room
does, indeed seem to have been used for science. See answer 1 above.
