Princes Street

The View

This view looks to the east along Princes Street.  The buildings in the distance on the top-left corner of the picture are:

-  Nelson Monument on Calton Hill (on extreme-left of the picture)

-  Clock Tower of the North British Hotel (now Balmoral Hotel)

-  Sir Walter Scott Monument

The buildings that run across the centre of the picture are the Royal Scottish Academy and the National Gallery of Scotland.  (Both buildings are now linked together, underground, and are part of the National Galleries of Scotland.)

Above the National Galleries are buildings in Edinburgh Old Town and the former Head Office of Bank of Scotland (now HBoS)

1932

The Valentine number on this postcard is very feint, but appears to be 217203 or similar.  If so, it would indicate that the photo was taken in 1932.

Do you recognise any of the models of cars in this photo?
