George Washington Wilson Postcard |
Thank you to Kenneth G
Williamson for sending me this photograph of Newhaven Esplanade,
by George Washington Wilson. The postcard was posted in 1904
to George Street, Leith.
Kenneth added:
Street Names
"Here is a postcard of
Newhaven which was sent to one of my wife's relatives in 1904.
The address on the back is interesting. I believe streets in
Leith with the same name as Edinburgh and vice versa were changed,
some time after the Second World War to avoid confusion. Thus
George Street in Leith became North Fort Street."
Bomb
"During the Second World
War a bomb fell on George Street, Leith."

Bombs -
Edinburgh & Leith
Here is a list of
bombs that fell on Edinburgh and Leith during World War II.
The bomb that Kenneth mentions above fell on June 18, 1940. |
Annfield - Postcard 1910
Here is another
postcard of the same street, here named Annfield. This photo
was taken on March 11, 1910.
