Thank you to Barry Potter for
sending me an old photo of Corstorphine. I corresponded by email with
Barry about this photo and was amused to see where the conversation took us.
See below. |

Barry Potter sent me an old photo of St John's Road,
Corstorphine, and an email saying:
"I thought
you might like this pic for your site"

I thought the photo looked interesting, so I replied
to Barry saying:
"I'd like to add that one to the EdinPhoto web site
as you suggested, but I don't know whether or not I'll be able to do that.
It depends where the photo came from.
So can you tell me:
-
if it was taken from a book, and if so which one?
OR
- if it was taken from a postcard, and if so, do you
know who owns the card?
Sorry to have to ask you these questions, but I
really need to check with the owner / copyright holder whether or not they would
be happy for me to add the photo to my EdinPhoto web site."

Barry Potter replied telling me that he lives in
South Yorkshire, but regularly visits friends in Corstorphine. He added:
"Recently one of my friends in Corstorphine saw this picture posted
at the bus stop which is situated to the right of the picture and photographed
it. It would appear there was no info on the picture as to who it belonged
to."

On reading 3 above, I looked again at the photo
taken at the bus stop, and realized that above the old view there was some text
in a style that looked familiar to me, reading:
Corstorphine

Early 1900s
|
This leaves no doubt that:
a) the bus stop picture is, in fact, a print-out taken a while ago from
this page on the
EdinPhoto web site, AND
b) the view in the picture comes from one of my own postcards, a card
published in the early 1900s by WR&S.
So there's no need for me to now add Barry's photo
to the web site. To see a better quality copy of the bus stop picture, please click on the thumbnail image below:
