Looking SE

Many of th old Police Boxes, now no longer used by the Police, can be found in the streets of Edinburgh.  This one is at the eastern end of Cowgate, close to the Salvation Army building at the foot of Pleasance.

The sign in this photo is one of several put up in the streets to let motorists know the number of places available in car parks in the centre of the city.  Edinburgh had a reputation for being a difficult place to park, but these signs  show that for most of the year there are usually plenty of spaces available in the car parks.

This street can be busy with night life in the late evenings, but it was very quiet when I took this photo, early on a Saturday afternoon - with just one small dog creeping into the picture on the left..

The steps in the background lead to Guthrie Street.  There has been some building work in this area recently, and I think the stairs may now be closed.
