Craigmillar

The Craigmillar and Niddrie housing estates lie to the SE of Holyrood Park.  They are about 3 miles from the centre of Edinburgh.

The old housing in these areas is being replaced by new.  Almost all of the houses in this picture are now unoccupied, and have been 'boarded-up'.  Some of the houses in Wauchope Crescent, near the old laundrette, have already been demolished.

The old launderette listed on the key to this photo is actually in the background, almost hidden from view.

A few isolated houses in the streets in this picture are still occupied (at March 2007), but most of the traffic in the area is now learner drivers under instruction in the deserted streets.  Some of the streets have now lost their names.  Street signs were taken down from the houses and auctioned as souvenirs in 2006, even though a few of the houses in these streets are still occupied.
