The First Ship

Rhein

Here, the German Naval Auxiliary Ship Rhein (A513) is seen here having just passed through the locks from the Firth of Forth into Leith Western Harbour, on May 18, 2007.

Rhein  is an Elbe Class supply tender.  The German Navy has six ships in this class, each named after a German river.

There is another vessel, presumably also from the German Navy, following Rhein, but I have not been able to identify her.

The Second Ship

Hameln

I was surprised to receive information about the second ship in this photo.

"I did my military service on A513 Tender Rhein.  Her call sign is DRHL.

The vessel behind Rhein (A513) is M1092 Hameln, a type 333 minesweeper ('Ensdorf' class), recognisable by her international callsign DRFO (hoisted flags).

Both vessels are part of the 3rd minesweeper squadron."
