Edinburgh's Floral Clocks

Princes Street Gardens

A Floral Clock is planted in Edinburgh during the summer months each year.  The first was planted in 1903.  The idea has been copied by many other cities around the world.

Here, on July 6, the 2009 Floral Clock is almost fully planted.  The two long ladders belonging to the gardeners who are planting the clock are still in place but there is no sign of the gardeners.  They may be taking a lunch break.

The cuckoo is perched outside his box at the upper-left corner.  When the clock is complete, the cuckoo will emerge every fifteen minutes.
