St Leonard's District  -  1920s

East Crosscauseway

This view looks at an interesting mix of shops and businesses on the south side of East Crosscauseway.

- The name above the door of No 45 is 'D Grant, Meter Works'.  The 1930-31 edition of the Edinburgh & Leith Post Office Directory gives lists 'D Grant & Co' as being at 45 East Crosscauseway.

-  The archway on on the right of the photo leads to Cowan's Close where Hope Cottage Child Garden was based.  There is 'Hope Cottage Child Garden' notice above the archway.  There is still a nursery school in Cowan's Close: 'Hope Cottage Nursery School'.

-  Also above the archway there is a sign for Cowan Close.  The sign can just about be deciphered on the original negative.
