"I'm sure you'll get many, many
responses telling you that the ban was Jimmy Shand's - with Sir
Jimmy in the forefront. There is an imposing statue of him in
his home village of Auchtermuchty.
There is a picture of this statue on the
Wikipedia page for
Jimmy Shand."

"The
accordion player was
Jimmy Shand who came from Auchtermuchty Fife. He was famous in
the 1950s and 1960s for Scottish reels, etc. It could be
his band or perhaps he was playing as a guest."

"I'm sure that many people have
already e-mailed you to tell you that the accordionist in this
picture is the great Jimmy Shand, but just in case they haven't,
that's who it is."

"I remember 'Jimmy Shand and his
Band'. In the same year as this photo was taken, Buddy Holly
died (3rd February 1959 - I was wearing a Harris tweed jacket, white
shirt with cutaway collar, cavalry twill trousers, brown suede shoes
and a cravat - the height of fashion) and we teenagers never had any
time for the likes of Jimmy and his ilk who represented a bygone
Scotland from another era that we wished to dissociate ourselves
from.
We used to say: "Jimmy Shand (and he's
banned)" to indicate that we belonged to a new and more
internationally aware generation."
