Hotel Missoni

George IV Bridge

New Hotel  -  2009

Hotel Missoni is a new hotel built on the site of the former Lothian Regional Council Headquarters, built in 1968 and demolished less than 40 years later.

The new hotel faces onto George IV Bridge, and extends from the Lawnmarket to Victoria Terrace, the high-level walk above Victoria Street.

Hotel Missoni, and Pizza Express beneath it, at street level on the corner of George IV Bridge and Victoria Street,  were being fitted out and appeared to be almost ready to open when I took the photo at the top of this page on June 16, 2009.

Victoria Street

This view is taken from the top of Victoria Street, the steep street lined with shops, on the left of this photo, leading down to the Grassmarket.

The entrance to Victoria Terrace is up the steps with the handrail, (centre-right at the bottom of the photo) then turn to the left.

George IV Bridge, heading to the north towards the Royal Mile, is the street on the extreme-right of this photo.
