The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, part of the National Galleries of Scotland, stands in Queen Street.

PICTURE 1:  Here is the building undergoing restoration.  The car and tram, on route to Granton, suggest that this photo was taken in the early 1950s, shortly before Edinburgh converted from trams to buses.

PICTURE 2:  Here is a view of renovation work being carried out on the tower of the same building, at the corner of Queen Street and North Saint Andrew Street, about fifty years later  -  on 20 August 2002.
