Waverley Bridge Terminus  -  Route X48

The Terminus

This view looks across Waverley Bridge to the NE, towards the Balmoral Hotel (formerly the North British Hotel) with its clock tower, at the East End of Princes Street.

The bus on Route X48 is standing on the east side of Waverley Bridge, between the two vehicular entrances to Waverley Station.

The west side of Waverley Bridge is the starting point for the open-top buses and other buses that give tours of Edinburgh.

The Route

When this photograph was taken in May 2007, route X48 ran from Waverly Bridge (above Waverley Station in the centre of Edinburgh) to:

-  Ingliston 'Park & Ride' (near Edinburgh Airport, west Edinburgh) and

-  the village of Ratho (about 3 miles further to the west).

However, in 2008, another 'Park & Ride' car park has opened in Edinburgh. This is at Sheriffhall in SE Edinburgh.  The X48 service has been extended to run between Ratho / Ingliston 'Park & Ride' to Sheriffhall 'Park & Ride', rather than terminate in the centre of Edinburgh.

The Buses

The 'Park & Ride' buses are in green livery, with the red and gold harlequin pattern.

Most of the buses currently operating this service, in June 2008, are single-deckers like the one above, but there is also one articulated single-decker being used and a few double-deckers.
