John Watson's Hospital

John Watson, writer to the signet, left funds in 1759 to endow a hospital for the maintenance and education of destitute children.

The result was this building of Grecian architecture, designed by William Burn, the designer of the Edinburgh Academy.

The building went on to become John Watson's school until 1975
