Princes Street Gardens

with the Bandstand and Ross Fountain

Front of the Card

The main view on this postcard looks to the south-west across West Princes Street Gardens towards the Mound.  The Head Office of the Bank of Scotland is above and slightly to the left of the bandstand.  The bandstand has been replaced by the Ross Bandstand with its large stage

The inset picture is of the Ross Fountain, which still stands a little further to the west in West Princes Street Gardens, beneath Edinburgh Castle.

Back of the Card

The postcard, which has an undivided back, and so has the message on the front,  was sent from Edinburgh to Ireland on 24 August 1903.

It appears to carry some good news:

"Have you heard that all the girls have passed the Oxford?"
