Thank you to Sally Falconer (née Murray) for sending me this photo, taken in her back green at Fort Place, Leith, Edinburgh.

Our Back Green

"This photo was taken at the back green to the flats at Fort Place, Leith. I lived at number 7 and the photo was taken at the back of number 7.

- I am the girl with the dog.

- He was my dog, a wee mongrel called 'Bruce'.

- The girl on the left was my friend, Grace Fox.

- We both went to Fort Street School and then on to Leith Academy, although I was 1 year older than her.

I think this photo would have been taken about 1962, when we were about 8 yrs old."

My Home in 1960s

"I was living at number 7, Fort Place around 1962 when this photo of me was taken."

Emigration

"I emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1990, bit did not l ike it there, so I returned to Scotland in 1991.

Play in 1960s

"I remember Jacky's Backy, and some of the games that we used to play:

- Scraps. We kept our old scraps in a book and swapped them with each other.

- Elastic. We jumped over elastic bands which we had made into long lengths.

- Balls. We bounced two balls against a wall, singing a rhyme at the same time.

- Peevers. That was like Hopscotch.

- Skipping.

We used to take a clothes horse into our back green, and put an old grey army blanket over it, to make a tent.
