Our Back Green
"This photo was taken
at the back green to the flats at Fort Place, Leith. I lived at
number 7 and the photo was taken at the back of number 7.
- I am the girl
with the dog.
- He was my
dog, a wee mongrel called 'Bruce'.
- The girl on
the left was my friend, Grace Fox.
- We both went
to Fort Street School and then on to Leith Academy, although I was
1 year older than her.
I think this photo
would have been taken about 1962, when we were about 8 yrs old."

Emigration
"I emigrated to
Adelaide, South Australia in 1990, bit did not l ike it there, so I
returned to Scotland in 1991.
Play in 1960s
"I remember
Jacky's Backy, and some of the games that we used to play:
- Scraps.
We kept our old scraps in a book and swapped them with each other.
- Elastic.
We
jumped over elastic bands which we had made into long lengths.
- Balls.
We bounced two balls against a wall, singing a rhyme at the same time.
- Peevers.
That was like Hopscotch.
- Skipping.
We used to take a
clothes horse into our back green, and put an old grey army blanket over
it, to make a tent.

It looks as if this photo may include one of the tents that Sally
mentions above.
