These road markings were in place for only a few weeks.  Following protests from motorists,
Edinburgh City Council agreed on 17 November 2005  that these traffic restrictions should be removed.

RESTRICTOINS

These are some of the many new road markings that appeared on roads in the New Town of Edinburgh in 2005 as  the Central Edinburgh Traffic Management scheme was introduced.

The decision to restrict entry and exit to London Street at this junction to buses, taxis and cycles has become very controversial and has been widely ignored by motorists.

The markings on the left hand side of the road are immediately after the junction, telling motorists that they should not have just turned into this road.

The arrow on the right tells motorists that they have gone far enough and should make a u-turn rather than go through the junction into Drummond Place.

UPDATE

These restrictions were removed after a few weeks.
