Arthur Street

Western end of the Street

Arthur Street was the first turning on the left after climbing the Pleasance from Holyrood Road and passing the Edinburgh University buildings.

The old houses in Arthur Street were demolished around the 1960s, but the old cobbled surface at the top of the street has survived.  This is now part of New Arthur Place.  This view looks to the east down New Arthur Place.

Salisbury Crags in Holyrood Park can be seen rising above the buildings in the background in this photo.

Eastern end of the Street

Arthur Street used to extend beyond the fence in the background and down the steep hill (sometimes too steep!) towards Holyrood Park.

The steep eastern end of Arthur Street can be seen, between the tenements, in the background of this photograph taken from Holyrood Park.
