Cavalcade Route

Previously Princes Street

Until 2008

The Cavalcade  marks the start of Edinburgh's 3-week Fringe Festival.  Up to 2008, the route of the cavalcade has been  along Princes Street, but this this year most of Princes Street was closed to traffic to enable the new tram tracks to be laid.

Holyrood Park

2009

So the Cavalcade's route for 2009 was through Holyrood Park, beginning at the entrance near the Royal Commonwealth Pool and ending at the entrance near Meadowbank Station.

The photos below were taken about half-way along the route, looking down on the entrance near the Scottish Parliament.

Paricipants

Until 2008

The Cavalcade  began with a parade of motorcycles.  These were followed by the cast of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, then a selection of participants in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

There were also:

-  Minis, commemorating 50 years since production of the Austin and Morris Mini began.

- representatives of the recently revived Edinburgh Common Riding, on horseback.
