The Easter Play in West Princes Street Gardens  -  26 March 2005  -  The Last Supper ©

The Princes Street Easter Play Trust are to perform their Easter Play in in the style of the medieval 'mystery plays', in West Princes Street Gardens, on Easter Saturday, 26 March 2005.  The play will begin at 2.30 pm and will last a little over two hours.

The play will progress through five locations, all in West Princes Street Gardens, with the audience following the cast through the gardens between scenes.  The play will end with Crucifixion and Resurrection scenes on the slopes beneath Edinburgh Castle

The Crucifix

The Crucifix will be 18ft high.  Its cross-section will be carried 500 yards through Princes Street Gardens to the base of Castle Hill by Christopher Duffy from Auchtermuchty, Fife, who will play Christ. 

It will remain in position for five days, and will be decorated with flowers on Easter Sunday morning.

Jazz Concert

As part of the Edinburgh Easter Festival, a jazz concert will be taking place in the Ross Bandstand, West Princes Street Gardens, before the play, commencing at 1pm.
