History
The
'Riding of the Marches' was held in Edinburgh between 1679* and 1718.
The purpose was to inspect the common land and boundary markers. The
event was held again in 1946 to celebrate the end of World War 2, and
annually from 2009.

The next
'Riding of the Marches'
is to be held on September 2011. For the first time in its 400 year
history, it is to be led by a 'Lass', Tracy McNaughton, 24.
The horseback cavalcade will tour the city for
