Riding of the Marches

2011

History

The 'Riding of the Marches' was held in Edinburgh between 1679* and 1718.  The purpose was to inspect the common land and boundary markers.  The event was held again in 1946 to celebrate the end of World War 2, and annually from 2009.

The next 'Riding of the Marches' is to be held on September 2011.  For the first time in its 400 year history, it is to be led by a 'Lass', Tracy McNaughton, 24.
