The high buildings of the Old Town can be seen in the background of this photo. The view looks down to the south towards the Old Town from the Scott Monument. In the foreground, is Waverley Bridge, with a new tunnel for the railway under construction. The large triangle of road (lower-centre) is now a mini-roundabout at the foot of Cockburn Street. In this view, Cockburn Street has yet to be built, but the line that the street is to take can be seen from the demolished buildings, forming a curve from lower centre towards the left edge of the photo. |
