Volume 1 of Talbot's book, Pencil of Nature, was the first book to be illustrated by photographs tipped into the volume. Volume 2 Pencil of Nature, was of advertised as 'just published' and for sale at a price of 21s in The Scotsman in 1845. The book was illustrated with seven plates from Talbot's calotypes.
