Early Days
Until the early 1830s,
local transport around Edinburgh consisted of a few horse-drawn coaches,
normally carried only two or four passengers each. They ran between
- Edinburgh and Leith
- Port Hopetoun (terminus of
the Union Canal) and Leith
- Portobello (in the east)
and Corstorphine (in the west)
Other routes were added in the 1840s and
1850s. At this time most of the routes were operated by coaches
carrying two or four passengers.
By the 1870s, there was more structure
to the services, many by then being operated by horse drawn
buses, rather than
coaches. |
