Register House and Tramlines

This view looks down the cable tram tracks in North Bridge towards Register House.  These were the days of the cable trams.  The central groove for the cable can be seen between the two rails of each track.

In front of Register House is the statue of Wellington on his horse.

What was the occasion.  Why are there so many people standing around.  What are they waiting for.
