Thank you to Jonathan
Mitchell, who recently moved in to Braelangwell House on the Black Isle
for telling me that the photograph above was in fact taken outside the
Braelangwell distillery, now used as a outbuilding at the farm to the
north of the house.

"Braelangwell
Distillery interested me. (I used to work in that
milieu.) It seems that, in
common with many others, after the licensing of distilleries in 1823, it
had bankruptcy problems and finally closed in 1843.
Further research has shown
that the owner had no (publicised) background in distilling and this may
have contributed to the distillery's failure.
It was certainly in a good
malt whisky area but the list of closed distilleries is infinitely longer
than those still extant."

"Other
Ross family photos now in Stephen Beadle's collection (mentioned
above) were also taken at Braelangwell, Black Isle. These were taken
at Braelangwell House and farm steading.
I'm giving a
guided tour of Braelangwell in late-May 2014."

"I had always
thought the Ross family were associated with the Braelangwell near Ardgay,
but these Ross family photos were definitely taken at Braelangwell, Black
Isle, Scotland."
