2. In recent years, an increasing number of
been listed by their first names in the trade directories and other
advertising. e.g. Jones, Lesley is more likely now to be found
Lesley Jones or perhaps
Lesley Jones Photogrpahy.
3. An increasing number of
Edinburgh photographers have been trading under company names rather than
their own names.
e.g. Capital Press Agency

So I have sorted the

lists into order by first name or company name rather than by surname.
In many cases, a company has traded under more than one name - sometimes
using as many as four different names - so I have added cross
references in the listings.
4. Since 1940 there
have been less instances of studios being used by a succession of
photographers, and the photographers' addresses have been spread over a
far larger, many working from home.
5. In the early trade directories photographers were
usually listed under 'Photographers'. Now they can appear under a
variety of headings.
e.g. Recent yellow pages include many photographers
under the the letter 'W': "Wedding Services: Capture the Day on
I may well have missed some of the photographers listed
in recent editions of yellow pages and other directories.
