OBITUARY
John Robert Dunbar Harper
"Mr John Robert Dunbar Harper, who was
widely known in the photographic world, died in Edinburgh yesterday.
Seventy-one years of age, he had been in business in Leith for
nearly half a century.
He was an Associate of the Royal
Photographic Society, a past-president of the Edinburgh Professional
Photographic Society, and held numerous appointments in connection
with amateur societies.
Mr Harper, who had judged many
Scottish international photographic salons over a long period of
years, possessed a brilliant flair as an analytical critic, and was
an acknowledged expert on the cultural development of the use of
photography. He had exhibited in many countries, and held
numerous awards and diplomas.
He was managing director of J
Campbell Harper Ltd. photographers and was a director of Campbell
Harper Films Ltd.
He is survived by his widow and a
daughter and son, the latter being closely identified with the film
business."
