I have been sent the image below.  The photograph measures 5.5 ins x 4 ins.  The sender believes that it was probably taken around 1908-15.  The photograph is described as having a `silvered` finish, which when held at a certain angle looks to go to negative.

Question 1

Can anybody suggest what process was used to produce this photo?  An enlargement of part of the photo is included below, in case it helps in answering this question.

Question 2

Does anybody know who the sitter is?  Bob Brindle who provided the photo says that the only clue that he can provide is that his grandfather was employed as a shirt cutter when he was in Leith, and was very much an `Orangeman` and belonged to lodges, wherever he was.
