Castle Esplanade

The Esplanade in front of Edinburgh Castle is a
parade ground 510 ft. long and 300 ft. broad.
This was rough ground until 1753. A parapet and railings were
added on the northern side (the right in the photo above)
in 1689. A few years later a low wall was added on the southern
side. |
