George Oman was a photographer in Edinburgh from 1866 to 1879 and had
returned to Edinburgh, still working as a photographer by the time of
the 1881 census.
However the carte de visite of his wife, above, was taken in his studio
when he was working in Hawick above was taken he was working for
the partnership Scott & Oman in Hawick, about 50 miles to the south of
Edinburgh.
If the baby is Jemima Oman (as is
believed to be the case by Russell Young, grandson of Jemima) the
photograph will have been taken around 1873-74.
