Postcards of Edinburgh

The Post Card Bureau

Several post cards were produced in the early years of the 20th century, bearing the name The Post Card Bureau, 106 Princes Street on the front.  Those I have seen were all posted between 1903 and 1907.

Please click here to find Edinburgh Castle Esplanade on a map of the Royal Mile.

It is Nos. 119 + 121, near the top this map.

Edinburgh Castle Esplanade

The Esplanade in front of Edinburgh Castle is a parade ground 510 ft. long and 300 ft. broad.

This was rough ground until 1753.  A parapet and railings were added on the northern side (the right in the photo above) in 1689.  A few years later a low wall was added on the southern side.

Details above have been taken from 'Old & New Edinburgh'
