These buildings , a
short distance below New Street on the northern side of the Royal
Mile are five storeys high. they were erected by the
Incorporation of Cordiners (shoe makers) in 1677.
The door here is the
entrance to No 185. |

pedimented
cartouche with cherubs' heads, a crown, a shoemaker's knife
and an open book with the words:
BEhold how good a thing it is
and how becoming well
Together such as brethren are
in unity to dwell
