From 1891
The cabinet prints would have been numbered
chronologically from 1891 onwards. A Swan Watson's studio remained
at Bruntsfield until 1958, but cabinet prints were probably
produced there only until around 1900.
No 3302 above has a theatrical appearance, but
is probably a photograph from a session in A Swan Watson's studio.
This photo is dated on the back, 1896.
None of the other photos has a date, except the
final one above, which is dated July 1902. This photo is
much narrower than a cabinet print, but the mount has been cut to
cabinet print size, perhaps to allow it to fit into a Victorian
photograph album designed to hold cartes de visite and cabinet
prints.
This final photograph may suggest that by
mid-1902, A Swan Watson (like many other photographers) had
stopped producing cabinet prints and had moved on to other sizes
of photograph.
