James Henderson

Cartes de visite

Cartes de visite were popular from the 1850s until around 1900.  They were photos measuring about 3.5"x2.25" mounted on trade cards measuring about 4" x 2.5".

Two Styles of Back

The photographer's name and address usually appeared on the back of cartes de visite.  I have seen two different styles of back for James Henderson's cartes de visite.

I have seen about an equal number of each of these styles, but only one carte de visite amongst them that has been dated.  It is dated 1863 and has a back similar to the first illustrated below.
