In Modern Athens,
published 1829,
it was reported that the previous building in North Bridge
appropriated to the business of the Post Office was too small, so
a new Post Office had been erected in Waterloo Place
"with extensive accommodations for conducting this
important branch of public business."
This building can be
seen in the engraving above, situated immediately to the left of
Regent Bridge.

The Post Office moved
again in later years, across the road to a
new building on the
corner of Waterloo Place and North Bridge, a site previously
occupied by the
Shakespeare Theatre.
