Three  Postcards

Hartmann appear to have produced at least three versions of this postcard in 1903:

SEPIA  -  [The top card above]  This card has not been sent through the post, but has a comment in ink on the back  "Bought in Princes Street, Edinburgh, 4 August 1903.

BLACK & WHITE -  [The lower card above]  This card was posted from Edinburgh to Bedford on 2 July 2003.  I like the message on the front of the card!

COLOUR  This card was also produced in colour.  Please click on the image below to see a card that was posted on 13 July 1903.

The View

This postcard by Hartmann looks down from Calton Hill, over Calton Jail (now demolished to make way for the Government offices, St Andrew's House, in Regent Road.

FOREGROUND:          The slopes of Calton Hill, and St Andrew's House

MIDDLE DISTANCE:    Holyrood Palace and the Old Town of Edinburgh near the foot of the Royal Mile.

BACKGROUND:           Arthur Seat and Salisbury Crags in Holyrood Park.
