Marine Gardens, Portobello, were created in 1909 using many of the buildings that had formed the Scottish National Exhibition at Saughton Park in 1908. The postcard above is unusual in being a real photograph. Many of the postcards of the Scottish National Exhibition and of Portobello's Marine Gardens were artists' impressions, like the two below: Scottish National Exhibition 1908 Marine Gardens 1909 This view looks towards the north-west, with the Island of Inchkeith, near Leith and a steamer in the Firth of Forth in the background. |
