The Farm House  -  Swanston

I particularly like this view of Swanston by James Patrick, with the old carts in the foreground and the Pentland Hills in the background..

Swanston lies at the foot of the Pentland Hills, about five miles to the south of the centre of Edinburgh.

This postcard was posted from Edinburgh to Helensburgh on 11 September 1905.  It was written by a mother to her son, Master C Allan.  The message read:

"My Dear C,  We, Pa and I, have been out a motor ride today ... nearly to Mid Calder.  It was dreadfully cold but we enjoyed it.  Pa is buying a new one tomorrow and we were testing it.  It is frightfully cold here today.

I am sorry last night's letter was forgotten to be posted.  I hope you get it today.  Love Mother."

[Mid Calder is a village in West Lothian.  It lies about ten miles to the west of Swanston.]

This was the first of four postcards that were sent to Master C Allan by his mother.  They were posted on 7th, 9th, 11th and 15th September 1905.
