Thank you to the former residents of Dumbiedykes who have sent me their memories of Dumbiedykes Road and other streets in the area.

Sheila Cull (née Clark), now living in Australia, wrote:

"I was interested to read an message on your web site from Liz Sproat (née Elizabeth Bell) from 50 Dumbiedykes Road, as I lived there until 1955.

The picture above shows where I was born and lived till I was 14.

-  Our family lived at the left hand end of the first balcony (above the nearest washing hanging on the green).

-  The Bells lived above us, in the middle of the second balcony."

The large photograph above was one of several dozen taken in 1959 by Adam H Malcolm in the Dumbiedykes area of Edinburgh.  These photographs were taken shortly before the houses were demolished.  Adam H Malcolm donated these photographs to the Edinburgh City Libraries in the 1960s and they can now be found in the Library's Edinburgh Room Collection.
