Thank you

An application has been submitted to Unesco, seeking World Heritage Site status for The Forth Bridge.  Network Rail invited me onto the bridge this year, as a 'thank you' to me for being  Head Judge for their 'Forth Bridge Photographic Competition' held in November 2013 - an events in the run-up to the application for World Heritage status for the bridge. Thank you.

A row of floodlights runs along the bottom of this picture.-  a few of the many floodlights throughout the bridge.

Floodlighting was installed for the bridge's centenary in 1990, then upgraded a few years later.

This is the 3rd photo taken from this position.  It  shows North Queensferry more clearly than the fisheye photos.

A train is passing through the bridge heading for North Queensferry Station, just around the curve in the track.

This photo was taken with a 24 mm lens, giving a more conventional view with less distortion.

This lighthouse is all that remains of an earlier Forth Bridge,  Thomas Bouch Forth Bridge of 1870s.
Work on that bridge was abandoned at an early stage when Bouch's Tay Bridge collapsed in 1879.

William McGonagall's poem ''The Tay Bridge Disaster' begins:

"Beautiful Railway Bridge of the Silv’ry Tay!

Alas! I am very sorry to say

That ninety lives have been taken away

On the last Sabbath day of 1879,

Which will be remember’d for a very long time."
