Road Construction

A route from Saltire Square to the Western Breakwater

Work begins here on constructing a route between the Western Breakwater of Granton Harbour and Saltire Square.

The entrance to the breakwater is at the western end of West Harbour Road.

Saltire Square is a new square close to the centre of the Edinburgh Waterfront site.  The square, and the new road, Waterfront Avenue, were opened in June 2004.

The route being created in the picture above is not yet open.

Photos 2 and 3

Here is the same scene, looking much more finished, sixteen months later.

The same building can be seen on the left hand side of photos 1 and 2.  Saltire Square is just beyond the fence in photos 2 and 3, with some old industrial buildings (no doubt, soon to be removed) beyond Saltire Square.

Both photos 2 and 3 look across West Shore Road from close to the entrance to Granton Harbour's Western Breakwater.  The rough grass in both of these photos is on the near side (northern side) of West Shore Road.
