The photo of the crew was taken off Grimsby in 1945 by one of the shipmates, using a box Kodak camera belonging to my late father."

Tom Bain

"My father, Tom Bain, is on the right of the picture.  At the time he and my grandparents, Charles and Isabella, lived at 2 Harewood Drive, Craigmillar.

He served his apprenticeship as a cooper at Murrays and also worked at MacLachlans and the Caledonian distillery at Haymarket.

A committed trade unionist, he eventually became general secretary of the National Trade Union of Coopers."
