Shandwick Place

Looking West

Thank you to Stuart Guild, Edinburgh for sending me two photos of Shandwick Place, both taken in 1955 as the old tram lines were being lifted.

The photograph above is taken from the east end of Shandwick Place looking to the west towards Haymarket.

Stuart Wrote:

"Here are some pictures which might be relevant in the current circumstances*.  Traffic was kept flowing as can be seen."

* Stuart is referring, here, to the ongoing preparations for the new tram system in Edinburgh linking Leith to Edinburgh Airport.  These preparations have disrupted traffic in the Shandwick Place area in for several months recently.

Looking East

Here is the other photo of Shandwick Place, sent to me by Stuart Guild.  This one looks to the east towards the West End of Princes Street, from the junction of Shandwick Place and the western end of Coates Crescent.
