James Clark's School in St Leonard's Lane was on the high ground at the edge of Holyrood Park, opposite Salisbury Crags. The school has now closed and has been converted to housing. Thank you to Jean Rae for sending me this photograph a class at the school, and for providing the names of most of the pupils in the class. This photo was taken in the Assembly Hall. There had also been other pupils in the class earlier in the year, but several had left the school at the age of fifteen by the time that this photo was taken in January 1966. I did not discover the names of two of the pupils in this photo until the photo was displayed at a James Clark School exhibition held at the Nelson Hall in August 2008. The photo was displayed at this exhibition. The names of pupils 13 and 15 were provided by visitors to that exhibition. Then Lynda Cadney (née McRae), No 15 on this photo and now living in Epping, Essex, England, emailed me on April 11, 2009, to tell me that a correction was needed to the names of Nos 15 and 16. I've now made the correction. Thank you Linda. |

Maureen Simkanin (née MacDonald writes: "I was raised in Richmond Place right near the Dispensary. My maiden name was Maureen MacDonald and I went to Jimmie Clark School in the early 50's. I would give my right arm to be able to get in touch with any of my old school pals." Maureen Simkanin: April 2007 |
