Princes Street

Thank you to Brien Towler for allowing me to reproduce this picture that he took while in Edinburgh in 1962.

BACKGROUND:  Firth of Forth and the hills of Fife, beyond

Fettes College and Granton Gasometers

CENTRE:            The western part of Edinburgh's First New Town

The junction is Princes Street and Castle Street.

Princes Street is the street running 'left to right'

The hotel on the right-hand corner of Castle Street was destroyed in a fire in the 1990s.

FOREGROUND:  Canons at the castle ramparts (lower left)

These are facing towards Princes Street Gardens (lower right).

Many of the places mentioned above can be seen more clearly by viewing the enlarged image - but this may well be slow to load.
