Calton Hil

Here is a postcard of Calton Hill, near the centre of Edinburgh.  The postcard is by Reginald Phillimore and is characteristic of many of his postcards, with small sketches of the persons commemorated by the two monuments.

At the extreme left of the picture is Rock House

On the skyline, from left to right are:

-   The Observatory with its telescope (now used by the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh.

-   The Dugald Stewart Memorial. ( Dugald Stewart appears bottom-left)

-   The National Monument.

-   The Nelson Monument, in the shape of an upturned telescope.  (Nelson appears bottom right.)
