Assembly Hall from the

Castle Esplanade

Most views of Edinburgh Castle esplanade look towards the castle.  This one looks away from the castle and down the Royal Mile towards:

ON THE LEFT:  Short's Observatory  -  now the Camera Obscura

ON THE RIGHT:  The Assembly Hall with its tall spire.

The Assembly Hall is at the junction of Castle Hill and Johnston Terrace.  It later became Tolbooth St John's Church, and is now an Edinburgh Festival location named 'The Hub'.
