Thank you to Chris Leavy for allowing me to reproduce the photograph above. There is no photographer's name or address on this photo. Chris wrote: "The ladies in the photo (2 of which are my GG Aunts) all lived in Penicuik, Midlothian, Scotland. I noticed that this photo was very similar to one below attributed to Claude Low. The pane is different but the background ( church spire) is similar." The number on the plane (422) is, presumably, the number of the negative. This is quite a low number, suggesting perhaps that the photographer had not yet taken a large number of photos in his studio. Postcard Portrait from the studio of Charles Low
