Thank you to Jack ('Sarge') for allowing me to reproduce this photo.  Jack tells me that the figure in this photo was a stranger passing by.

Several of the landmarks in the background of the 1961 photo above are shown in the 1950s photo below.

From left to right, in the foreground of the photo above, are:

-  Brown Street (extreme left).

-  Salisbury Street.

-  open ground where West Arthur Place and Mid Arthur Place once stood.

-  the top of Arthur Street (in front of the walking lady).

2007

Thank you to Alan Wilson, Trinity, Edinburgh, for sending me this photo, made up of  two frames stitched together.

The photo was taken in October 2007.  It shows how much the Dumbiedykes area in the foreground has changed, though  many of the familiar landmarks in the background can be seen on both the 1961 and 2007 photos.
